Jan Tuller was raised in
Antioch, California, where she started performing ballet at a young age. She graduated
from California
State
University, Sacramento
with a degree in child development. She continued to take ballet in
college. In the early 90s she moved to
Auburn
with her husband Del
and their children Andrew and Sheri. In Auburn
she began clogging which she continued to do for 10 years. For seven
years she directed the Thunderfoot Cloggers and taught at the
Placer
School
for Adults. In 1997, Jan began choreographing musicals for two youth
theatre programs; the
Summer
Theatre
Academy
and the EV Cain Theatre Company. She choreographed nine shows in a
five-year period.
On
May 24th 2002
the
Auburn
community lost a dear
friend. Though she is no longer dancing on earth, her memory
and spirit will forever dance on.
Jan not only taught our feet to dance, but she taught our
hearts to sing. Always a smile on her face and a spirit filled
with patience and love as she worked with us year after year. We were able
to have her with us for only a brief time, but the imprint she left
will long remain.
In her memory the Jan Tuller Foundation was created in 2002.
Each year the foundation awards $1000 to a
high school student and $200 to a middle school student in
order to
enhance their passion for the arts. The scholarship rewards students
for their achievements in dance and theatre arts.
