Audition Tips

Want a few audition tips?

Before

1. WEAR COMFORTABLE CLOTHES AND SHOES. Be prepared for dance auditions by dressing appropriately.  Wear dance shoes, or come prepared to dance in your stocking feet. There will be a dance audition, so please dress appropriately for movement.

2. Practice at home! The better you know your song and monologue, the more confident you will be during the audition. Practice in front of a mirror. This allows you to notice any interesting physical challenges you may need to overcome - like hair in your eyes, glasses that are too big, etc.

3. Get a good night sleep. Make sure you get a good night's sleep before your audition. Eat a good and healthy breakfast.

4. COME PREPARED!

5. Most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!

During

1. Stay relaxed at the audition. The actual audition day can be quite overwhelming, the best thing you can do is to stay relaxed. Concentrate on the fun of performing, not the idea of “getting in the play.”

2. PROJECT. Open your mouth and sing so the casting team can hear your beautiful voice. Speak and sing clearly.

3. BE EXPRESSIVE.  Become the character of your song. Express with facial and body language your characters feelings. Have fun and smile.

4. APPEARANCE.  Make eye contact with the judge. Dress nicely and appropriately. And again remember to smile.

5. POTENTIAL.  At the actual audition, enter with confidence and a smile.  During your audition give your best. Remember we are looking for potential, not perfection.

After

1. CALLBACKS.  Everyone needs to hold the call-back date open so that if you are called you will be able to attend.  Many times the directors will want to re-evaluate your audition, or see how you look/sound with another member.

2. Afterward, stay positive! It is impossible for everyone to get the part they want. Remember no matter what role you get, you will still share in the enjoyment of the show. After casting you can ask the casting team how you can improve in the future.

3. CASTING.  The cast list will be post online.
